The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Section 1416 (a) (3) requires that states report the post-school engagement of students with disabilities in post-secondary education and employment. Therefore, the Ohio Department of Education's Office for Exceptional Children is required to report the percentage of students with disabilities who, within one year of leaving high school, are enrolled in higher education, participating in a training program, or competitively employed.

Historically, Ohio fulfilled this obligation through the Ohio Longitudinal Transition Study (OLTS). Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, post-school outcome data for students with disabilities is now collected within a new exiting student follow-up collection developed by the Ohio general assembly and Ohio Department of Education. Information about the Department’s exiting student collection can be found at the Ohio Department of Education website.
